This one is pretty crazy, a demented Portland crooner who goes by the name Mattress, gyrating wildly atop a railroad footbridge. And that would be episode 13 of the Penny Jam, Mattress at the Lafayette Footbridge. If you visit that link you’ll be able to read a little more about the crazy shoot that we endured to get this made.

Hey there friends. We just yesterday put up episode 12 of the podcast (The Penny Jam) and it’s a beauty — Laura Gibson at OMSI. Through a series of fortunate events we ended up with the keys to the castle, access to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, the folks there were very nice and excited to help out.
It was great timing as Laura was in between bouts of touring. Both scheduling the museum and the songwriter took a couple of months of planning, meanwhile The Penny Jam marched on in other venues. Originally we’d planned on filming inside OMSI’s resident submarine, the USS Blueback but due to some maintenance it didn’t quite work out - we’re crossing our fingers that we’ll be able to go back and consummate said camera-on-submarine scenario at some point in the future.
The combination of musician and place was awesome, we were very pleased with the end result. It was really a treat for me to hear the video because during the shoot the vocals and guitar were so quiet I could barely hear them. Despite her soft spoken voice, it’s powerful when you hear it clearly.
If you knew what was good for you you’d know about The Penny Jam, the weekly video podcast I produce here in Portland Oregon. We film local bands in unusual places, you’d like it. Anyhow, on July 2nd Holocene is hosting a showing the first 10 episodes of the podcast and 3 of the bands will rocking the shit out of your everything; Magic Johnson, Eric John Kaiser and The Ascetic Junkies. It should be a lot of fun, and a rare opportunity to see the videos at their original quality. Best part of the whole thing - it is FREE. So BRING YOUR FRIENDS. Also there is a rumor going around that there will be punch and pie.

It’s hard to believe that we’ve already got 10 episodes of the Penny Jam out. We’ve actually filmed 13 now - Sleep, Laura Gibson and Mattress are in the editing phase. We were really happy with how the following episode turned out, Eric kindof tricked us into doing a 2 song set but we didn’t mind. If you are curious about the place go the the Yarnia website or the Chronicles of Yarnia, the blog. You can find Eric John Kaiser on Myspace.
