It’s that time of the week where I post the new Penny Jam video. This episode was filmed on July 27th but was sitting in our vault just getting better and better. I now present you with Starfucker at Rudy’s Barbershop. The timing worked out fine because Starfucker just left on tour and released their self-titled debut album just yesterday. I bought it at their release show last week at the Doug Fir and it’s great, you definitely won’t regret buying this one. It’s kindof an instant classic.

To set the scene a little: Sean and I left Florence at 10am that morning, stopping off in Monmouth to pick up his step-dad Tony’s Camaro. We raced up to Portland, rolling into Rudy’s just minutes before our 2pm meetup time. The band started setting up and after the sound guys troubleshot some buzzing issues we got started, shooting 5 takes of their song “Party Face.” Check out the pics from Joe Mansfield – check out the whole set on flickr.

This here is a real pretty episode of the Penny Jam. We filmed this one back on July 6th, and aside from filming Starfucker (the next episode) we had a really slow production schedule this summer. I really love the light and color in this episode, it fits the music quite nicely.

Martha, the owner of The Immortal Piano Company on 40th and Belmont was very nice about letting us use her store and even tuned up a piano (the one Derrek is playing) specifically for the shoot. You should also check out Derrek’s music on Myspace if you like what he’s putting down.

I made this in 2005 for a drawing class a the University of Oregon, just found it on my computer the other day so I thought I’d throw it up here.

For the assignment, the instructor gave us the freedom to choose what our final project would be. I wasn’t feeling like spending a bunch of time on one large piece partly because I wanted to work on the project at home. Basically I sat in my studio apartment for 48 hours, watching movies and flipping through magazines for ideas of junk to sketch, drawing everything in Flash with a Wacom tablet I’d borrowed from work. The music is made by my friends Chris and Jesse of a band called Ape.

A Confluence of Conference-Call Hotties, to be more specific. Here we have 2 entries from up-and-coming Headset Hottie Spotter Patrick Marzullo.

In this corner, we have a lady from AccuConference.

And in the opposing corner we have a double-teaming of Headset ladies from AT Conference.

AT Conference

It seems like the conference call industry will be a natural hotbed of headset activity, so I’ll keep you posted as new cases arise.

Stock photography at it’s finest – this lady was documented previously back in episode 17 of headset hotties.

Grab a pair of blue and red 3D Glasses and take a peek at my new images below (click thumbnails). Through some experimentation I realized it was super easy to make 3D images with these supplies:

  1. A digital camera with a small lens (probably not an SLR)
  2. A pair of Red and Blue Glasses
  3. Photoshop

All you have to do is take 2 pictures, one red and one blue, through the lens of the glasses with your digital camera. Try and keep the glasses stationary so the images stay approximately eye-distance apart, that is kind-of key. Now drop them both into a single Photoshop document and change the Layer Mode of the top image to “Lighten.” Now all you have to do is put on the glasses and line up the images until they look right. I’ve found that getting this right depends on the size of the image, so if you line it up at 50% and then zoom to 100% it is going to get thrown out of whack. You should probably decide on an end-size in doing this so it’ll look correct when someone else views it later.

An alternate technique, which I havn’t tried would simply be to take both photographs normally and color them in Photoshop. This would allow for larger lens sizes. All you would need is a tripod and a way to keep your distances accurate.

These are my first images and are slightly off. I’ll get better! Let me know if any of you try this, I’ll love to see your experiments. Theoretically this would be the same when working with video and when Sean returns to Portland in a couple weeks I’m going to put our dual cameras to the test.

Don LaFontaine, the iconic voice behind about 5000 movie trailers and commercials, as well as a long, illustrious career in film in various capacities, is dead at age 68. He was a legend, and the world will miss him, though I’m sure his distinctive style will live on.

Welcome to the 27th installment of my exploration of headset-wearing customer service representatives in corporate settings! Affectionately referred to (by me) as “Headset Hotties.”

These are the first plants I’ve ever grown for consumption. I grew them from seeds and I’m fairly attached to them. Hopefully soon I’ll be eating them.
